A study shows that thermal ablation is a safe way of treating lung cancer. The research which studied 100 cases over a period of 10 years between 1991 and 2011 came to the conclusion that those lung cancer patients who cannot undergo surgery due to advanced age can opt for image guided ablation for lung cancer. Image guided ablation is a tried method and a good alternative to surgery.
According to Damian E. Dupoy, of Rhode Island Hospital some of the lung cancer patients at the hospital cannot tolerate radiation therapy and have difficulty undergoing surgery. These patients can receive thermal ablation at the outpatient department. In this procedure of treating lung cancer needle like applicators are placed on the tumors which are destroyed by intense heat or cold.

A recent study has revealed that men may be more prone to skin cancer than women as they are worse than women in protecting their skin from the harmful effects of sunrays. The report is based on a study by Cancer Research UK wherein a survey on 2059 adults showed only 47% men were using sunscreen against 65% women.
As exposure to sun increases the risks of skin cancer the study reveals that men need to get medical insurance to cover them for skin cancer. The report found that only 60% of men took protection against the sun by being in shade as against 72% women. According to Caroline Cemy, of Cancer Research, even though people know that skin cancer is caused by sunburn; very few take protection for the same. To reduce the risks of skin cancer she suggests that people should preferably spend time indoors between 11am to 3pm.
